  1. I do this demo every year. It’s a crowd-pleaser.

    It’s also a nice illustration of beat frequency– the apparent frequency of the string’s vibration is equal to the difference between its actual frequency and the strobe light’s frequency.

  2. You can also use this to find the speed of a rotating piece of equipment. I used to have a pocket strobe I carried with me on Vibration routes to verify equipment speeds.
